What is it all about?
Welcome to SAVE, a community-led group dedicated to looking after Steeple Ashton, bringing local ideas to life, and keeping our village a wonderful place to live.
At its heart, SAVE is about fostering the community of men across the village, enjoying each other’s company and getting things done together. Whether it’s tackling practical maintenance jobs around the village, backing projects requested by the Parish Council, or occasionally where it helps, particularly older individuals, pitching in to help local residents, we act as a central hub for community action. Inspired by initiatives like the UK “Men’s Sheds,” we aim to create a friendly, inclusive space where people can connect, share skills, work alongside neighbors, and take pride in our shared surroundings.
Above all, SAVE is built on camaraderie, recreation, and mutual respect. We are run entirely by volunteers who give their time to support Steeple Ashton, and we believe that working together should be both rewarding and fun.
How We Work
- Community-Led & Independent: While we work closely alongside the Parish Council to support local priorities, SAVE is an independent, non-profit group run and steered by an informal team of local residents.
- Driven by Local Ideas: Have an idea or noticed a job that needs doing? Let us know by emailing, phoning or talking.
- Events: We look to host and/or support number of activity events like Petanque meetings, Classic Car show, Summer Solstice BBQ.
- Self-Funding: We operate as a self-funding entity, working on volunteer spirit and community donations to cover our costs. Where projects are done on behalf of the PC and qualify as “jobs done for the village”, we receive funds from the Village levy. We have received gifts(aids) and made the odd little surplus which is held in our Revolut account.
- Meet: We meet informally at the Pub The Longs , every “First Tuesday” of the month at 19.00. Come along!
- The Hub: We have re purposed the containers at St Mary’s Recreation ground, with one half now a workshop equipped to do DIY style projects on behalf of the village. The Hub has a kitchen, WCs, bench, power tools with its operation under written by the PC.
- Annual Xmas: dinner and other events will we hope become regular diary fixtures.
